Verstappen wins the Japanese GP as Red Bull clinches constructors' crown
Max Verstappen dominated the Japanese GP from lights to flag, enabling Red Bull to clinch their sixth Constructors' Championship ahead of Mercedes and Ferrari.
Max Verstappen took an easy win at the Japanese Grand Prix, his 13th of the season, as Red Bull secured their sixth constructors' championship.
The Dutchman quickly established a lead after fending off early pressure from the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
He remained untroubled for the rest of the race, crossing the line 19.3 seconds ahead of Norris.
McLaren executed a strong team strategy, securing P2 and P3 on the podium for Norris and Piastri respectively.
Piastri made an early pit stop under the virtual safety car to undercut Norris but couldn't match his teammate's pace, allowing Norris to reclaim 2nd after the stops.
Charles Leclerc finished 4th for Ferrari after struggling to get past the one-stopping Mercedes of George Russell.
“It’s been the most amazing race for us, the most amazing year and it's all testimony to these guys and all the men and women back in the factory Milton Keynes,” Horner said.
“To all our partners, it’s the collection of an incredible effort of everybody doing their bit to achieve results like we've done.
“Max is just on another level at the moment, so it was an incredible performance.
“[Honda] has been a great partner for us, and it's very fitting to win this championship here with Honda in front of all the fans here.
The result puts Verstappen on the brink of claiming his 3rd consecutive drivers' title. He could seal it at the next race in the Qatar.
McLaren's double podium provides encouragement as they battle Aston Martin for 4th in the standings.
