US GP promoter invites Daniel Ricciardo to Texas
US Grand Prix promoter Bobby Epstein extends an open invitation to Daniel Ricciardo, highlighting the Australian's potential to make a significant impact off-track at the Austin event despite losing his F1 race seat.
Daniel Ricciardo's infectious smile and cowboy-inspired antics have become synonymous with the United States Grand Prix in recent years.
Despite his recent exit from the Formula 1 grid, the Australian driver's presence may still be felt at the upcoming race in Austin, Texas.
A Texas-sized welcome
Bobby Epstein, promoter of the US Grand Prix, has made it clear that Ricciardo would be more than welcome at the Circuit of The Americas, even without a race seat.
Speaking to RACER, Epstein highlighted the unique connection between Ricciardo and the Texan fans.
"Daniel, he may be able to have just as big of an impact out of the car as he has in it at our grand prix,"
Epstein stated. This sentiment underscores the value Ricciardo brings to the event beyond his on-track performance.
From driver to ambassador
Ricciardo's departure from VCARB came as a blow to many, particularly after his struggles to find form in the 2024 season.
However, Epstein sees potential for the Australian to transition into a new role within the F1 community.
"I'm not sure that necessarily people are buying tickets to come see him race if he's not in a competitive car,"
Epstein explained.
"So if you're coming because he's part of the F1 community, I think he can still be part of the F1 community in a pretty meaningful way."
This perspective aligns with Red Bull's reported interest in retaining Ricciardo in an ambassadorial capacity, potentially paving the way for his attendance at the US Grand Prix.
A fan favorite
Ricciardo's popularity in Texas stems from his wholehearted embrace of the local culture.
From donning cowboy boots and ten-gallon hats to his memorable arrival on horseback, the Australian has endeared himself to the Austin crowd.
Epstein emphasized this connection, stating,
"He's really, really loved in Texas, and I think he likes it here."
The promoter expressed hope that Ricciardo would make himself available to fans, even without racing commitments.
"I hope he's still coming here, because we got a lot of people that would love to shake his hand or get his autograph or take a picture. Just see him around town,"
Epstein added.
Healing and moving forward
The timing of the US Grand Prix, being the first F1 event since Ricciardo's departure from VCARB, could present emotional challenges.
However, Epstein and his team are ready to provide a warm welcome and keep the Australian entertained.
"We'll keep him busy,"
Epstein promised, hinting at potential off-track activities and fan engagement opportunities.
