Iconic chassis 211 returns to scene of 2001 victory for high-profile sale during 2025 Grand Prix weekend
Michael Schumacher's championship-winning Ferrari F2001 is returning to Monaco 24 years after its famous victory at the principality.
The legendary chassis 211 will go under the hammer at RM Sotheby's auction on May 24, 2025, during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

Historic significance
This particular F2001 carries tremendous historical weight within Formula 1's rich heritage.
The car delivered Schumacher's final Monaco victory in 2001 and also secured the championship-deciding win at that season's Hungarian Grand Prix.
The 2001 season represented peak dominance for the Schumacher-Ferrari partnership.
It delivered the German's second championship with the Scuderia and Ferrari's 11th constructors' title.
Their margin of victory was emphatic, finishing 58 points ahead of McLaren's David Coulthard.

Schumacher began that championship campaign with commanding wins in Australia and Malaysia.
These victories set the tone for one of his most dominant seasons despite strong challenges from Coulthard and his brother Ralf Schumacher.
Technical masterpiece
The F2001's technical specifications were equally impressive as the results it delivered.
Ferrari's engineers created a masterpiece that combined powerful performance with extraordinary reliability.
An optimized 900 bhp 3.0-liter V10 Tipo 050 engine powered the car, complemented by cutting-edge aerodynamics. This technical package proved nearly unbeatable, cementing the F2001's place within Ferrari's golden era of Formula 1 dominance.

Previous auction history
This isn't the first time chassis 211 has attracted wealthy collectors. The car previously sold at auction in 2017 for $7.5 million, making history as the first Formula 1 car to exceed $5 million at auction.
While RM Sotheby's hasn't released an estimate for the upcoming sale, experts anticipate the price will substantially surpass its previous record.
The auction will take place at the Monaco paddock club ahead of qualifying for the Grand Prix.
Charitable component
A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit the Keep Fighting Foundation, adding a philanthropic dimension to the high-profile sale.
This connection feels especially poignant given Schumacher's continued absence from public life.

The seven-time world champion has remained out of the public eye since sustaining a brain injury in December 2013. His family continues to maintain strict privacy regarding his condition, with very few updates released in recent years.
Return to Monaco
Augustin Sabatié-Garat, Director of Sales at RM Sotheby's, emphasized the significance of bringing chassis 211 back to Monaco.
"Victory on the streets of Monte-Carlo alone would make this a hugely significant Ferrari," he said.
"But to do so in the same season that it crossed the line to capture both the Drivers' and [Teams]' World Championships – the first back-to-back championship double in Ferrari history – takes it to a completely different level."
