The FIA's deadline for applications from potential new Formula 1 teams has come and gone, marking the commencement of a meticulous review process for the candidates.

Among the hopefuls are significant names like Andretti Cadillac and the 'Formula Equal' project, backed by a Gulf region country and led by Craig Pollock.

With applications now submitted, an intense period of assessment by the FIA begins.

“The deadline for applications for potential new entrants is now closed,” an FIA spokesperson disclosed to RACER. “ The FIA is in the process of an initial review of the applications received.”

There will be a communication blackout during this initial review stage, with the FIA adhering to a policy of confidentiality while potential clarifications with the entrants are sorted out.

The number of received applications has been kept under wraps, but the FIA and F1 have the flexibility to accommodate multiple new teams, if they so choose.

The application process, which was announced back in February, has very specific parameters for review.

According to the FIA, each application's assessment will focus on the applicant team's technical capabilities and resources, funding sustainability, and experience and human resources.

Notably, this is the first time potential entrants are required to address the sustainability challenge and their plans for achieving a net-zero CO2 impact by 2030.

Prospective teams must also lay out their plans to make a positive societal impact through their participation in the sport, which aligns with the FIA and Formula One Management's mutual aims.

The FIA concluded, “The overall long-term interests of the championship, involving all stakeholders, will determine which candidates are selected together with the applicable regulations and governance arrangements.”

Thus begins a period of anticipation, as both applicants and fans await the outcome of this critical review process.

The addition of new teams could inject fresh energy into the high-stakes world of Formula 1 racing
