McLaren's Lando Norris led an unexpected British trio at the top of the timesheets in Friday's sole practice session for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.

The 24-year-old posted a time of 1:10.610 in the final minute to edge Mercedes' George Russell, while Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman impressed with third on his return to F1 action with Haas.

World champion Max Verstappen struggled to 15th after aborting his fast lap on soft tyres, while team-mate Sergio Perez's difficulties continued as he managed only 19th in his replacement chassis.

The session saw drivers grappling with a bumpy new track surface, with Lewis Hamilton, who didn't attempt a soft-tyre run, finishing 16th.
