McLaren's Dominance

Norris expressed elation over the team's performance. "It's a perfect start to the season," the Briton said.

His flawless lap underscored McLaren's impressive pace, which had been evident during pre-season testing.

Piastri, competing in his home Grand Prix, matched his teammate's pace. The Australian driver showcased the MCL39's competitiveness across both cars.

"I'm pretty happy with that," Piastri reflected. "It's a great way to start the weekend, especially here at home."

Verstappen's Resilience

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen secured third on the grid for Red Bull Racing.

He trailed Norris by 0.385 seconds in the final timesheet.

Despite initial setup challenges, Verstappen found confidence in his car's improved performance during qualifying.

"The car felt much better than in practice, and we made a good step forward," he remarked after the session.

Ferrari's Underwhelming Performance

Ferrari faced unexpected challenges in the session. Charles Leclerc and new signing Lewis Hamilton qualified seventh and eighth respectively.

Hamilton, still adjusting to the SF-25 in his third race weekend for the Scuderia, acknowledged the need for further adaptation.

This becomes particularly important with rain forecasted for race day.

"I've got some homework to do tonight, particularly with the wet setup," Hamilton commented. "I haven't driven this car in those conditions yet."

Midfield Surprises

The midfield battle intensified with several standout performances. Yuki Tsunoda delivered an impressive result to secure fifth for Racing Bulls.

Alex Albon placed his Williams in sixth—a significant improvement for the Grove-based team that has struggled in recent seasons.

"It's a great result for us," Albon reflected. "The car felt strong, and we're optimistic about scoring points tomorrow."

Rookies and Challenges

The session proved challenging for rookies in the field. Mercedes newcomer Andrea Kimi Antonelli exited in Q1 after suffering bib damage that caused heavy sparking underneath his car.

Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls also faced difficulties. Engine issues hindered his performance, leading to an early elimination from qualifying.

Norris remains optimistic about McLaren's prospects despite the weather threat. "We've shown great pace in the dry, and we're ready to tackle whatever the weather throws at us," he stated.

Verstappen, known for his wet-weather prowess, sees the forecast as an opportunity.

"Rain could mix things up, and we'll be ready to capitalize," the defending champion added.
