Nico Rosberg criticizes Max Verstappen's attitude towards Red Bull after Saudi Arabian GP
Nico Rosberg has criticised Max Verstappen's attitude towards his Red Bull team, after the Dutch driver voiced his frustration over reliability issues that cost him a better starting position in the Saudi Arabian GP.
Max Verstappen's drive in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was a story of what could have been, as the Red Bull driver narrowly missed out on securing pole position and then had to work his way back up the grid after suffering from a driveshaft failure in Q2.
Despite his impressive comeback drive, Verstappen was unhappy with the reliability issues that had cost him precious track time and forced him to fight his way back up the grid.
In a press conference after the race, Verstappen criticised Red Bull for the issues that had made his job more difficult, saying "I'm not here to be second."
Verstappen's unhappiness did not sit well with 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg, who felt that the Dutchman could have been more gracious in his comments.
Rosberg noted that Verstappen's attitude towards his team was less than ideal, saying "Yesterday he left the track very quickly and skipped the team meeting apparently, that’s what we’ve been told, and I think that’s not a good approach, not a good mentality this early in the season."
Rosberg also took issue with Verstappen's criticism of Red Bull's reliability issues, noting that the team had provided the young driver with a car that was far superior to all others in F1 2023.
"It's not good to see that really," Rosberg told Sky Sports F1 regarding Verstappen's reaction.
"And when the team has done such a brilliant job with that car, and is working so hard and everything, he could be a little bit more gracious maybe, I would say."
While Rosberg acknowledged that Verstappen had every right to be disappointed with the reliability issues that had affected his performance, he also felt that the driver could have been more diplomatic in his comments and more supportive of his team.
Despite the tensions within the Red Bull team, Verstappen was able to secure a valuable second-place finish and set the fastest lap of the race to earn a bonus point.
With the Drivers' Championship still up for grabs, the Dutchman will be hoping that his team can address their reliability issues and provide him with a car that is capable of taking him to the top of the podium.
