Monza has embarked on major renovation works across various areas of the circuit to upgrade its dated facilities ahead of September's Italian Grand Prix.
With F1 demanding modernised infrastructure from historic tracks, these timely investments totalling €21 million over the next five months aim to preserve Monza's calendar spot.
Complete track resurfacing
The circuit's main straight, pit lane and full track surface is being completely renewed. This extensive resurfacing will rectify existing bumps, improve drainage issues and upgrade the track geometry.
By digging deeper beneath the top layers, the new surface will bolster the entire structure’s integrity.
Gravel is making a comeback
The first and second chicanes will see the reintroduction of gravel traps, increasing safety.
Sustainably-sourced materials with enhanced acoustic properties will also be utilised in the construction, reducing noise pollution.
Enhancing accessibility
A new vehicle underpass inserted under the main straight will ease access, supplemented by expanded existing underpasses to separate vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Angela Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, explained the balanced approach:
“We want to combine the extraordinary history of this facility with technological research and cutting-edge architectural solutions, with the utmost respect for the iconic place in which we are."
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the upgrades aligning Monza to modern F1 standards, thanking stakeholders for securing the investment.
With the works scheduled for completion ahead of September's grand prix, Monza is set to retain its beloved spot on the calendar long into the future.
The circuit will unveil its new look to fans this season, kicking off the next century of racing at the 'Temple of Speed'.
