McLaren unveils new livery for 2024 season
McLaren breaks tradition with an early reveal of its 2024 F1 livery. The MCL38 sports more orange and bold black, inspired by last year's special editions.
In a striking departure from its usual approach, McLaren has unveiled the livery for its 2024 Formula 1 season ahead of the full reveal of the MCL38.
This strategic move, deviating from the norm of simultaneously unveiling the livery and launch specifications, is aimed at maximizing the team's marketing potential during a period traditionally quieter in new car launch news.
The MCL38's livery holds a close resemblance to its predecessors, with notable alterations from the MCL60 of 2023, which achieved nine podiums.
The new design features an increased presence of orange on the front wing and rear of the engine cover, and a bold geometric slash of black on the sidepods, inspired by a special livery used in last year's Singapore and Japan races.
The light blue accents from previous cars have been replaced with a darker blue, aligning more with the team's pre-2022 color scheme.
A significant nod to McLaren's heritage is seen in the chrome driver number decals on the nose and engine cover, reminiscent of the team's design ethos from the mid-2000s to mid-2010s.
The full design of the MCL38 will be revealed on February 14, marking a return to the conventional numbering system after the MCL60 celebrated the 60th anniversary of the team's founding.
The MCL37 number, however, has been notably skipped.
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, shared his enthusiasm for the new livery:
"We're delighted to launch our 2024 Formula 1 livery ahead of the new season – the design looks awesome, and I can't wait to go racing and see it come to life on track next month".
Lando Norris, looking forward to his sixth season in Formula 1, commented, "The new livery looks great with the inclusion of segments from last year's enhancements, I'm sure the fans will love it as much as me.
Everyone at the factory has worked incredibly hard in the off-season, and I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the 2024 car to challenge our competitors towards the front of the grid."
Oscar Piastri, preparing for his second F1 season, expressed his excitement:
"The 2024 livery looks really cool and I'm looking forward to racing in the iconic colours of McLaren for a second season."
