The reigning world champion topped all three qualifying segments, setting a blistering lap time of 1:28.197s in the final session, just 0.066s ahead of Perez, claiming his third straight pole at Suzuka.

McLaren's Lando Norris matched his qualifying performance from the previous race at the Japanese circuit, securing third place on the grid.
