Ferrari strengthens F1 team with ex-Mercedes duo
Ferrari has made significant additions to its Formula 1 operations, confirming the high-profile arrivals of Loic Serra and Jerome d'Ambrosio from rivals Mercedes to fortify its engineering and management teams.
Ferrari has announced the appointment of Loic Serra as its new Head of Chassis Performance Engineering.
Serra, who previously held the position of Performance Director at Mercedes, will assume his new role at the Scuderia on October 1st and will report directly to Technical Chief Enrico Cardile.
Serra's F1 Experience
A seasoned figure in the Formula 1 paddock, Serra's career in the sport spans over two decades.
He initially joined as an engineer for Michelin before transitioning to BMW Sauber after the tire manufacturer's departure in 2006.
When BMW withdrew from F1, Serra found a new home at Mercedes, where he steadily climbed the ranks, taking on various vehicle dynamics roles before being promoted to Performance Director.
D'Ambrosio joins as deputy team principal
In a parallel move, Ferrari has also secured the services of former Formula 1 driver Jerome d'Ambrosio, who will assume the role of Deputy Team Principal to Fred Vasseur, effective October 1st.
D'Ambrosio's appointment marks a departure from his current position as Driver Development Director at Mercedes, where he played a pivotal role in nurturing the team's young talent.
D'Ambrosio's multifaceted F1 background
D'Ambrosio's association with Formula 1 dates back to 2011 when he drove for the Marussia Virgin Racing team.
He also had a brief stint with Lotus in 2012 as a replacement for the then-banned Romain Grosjean at the Italian Grand Prix.
After a foray into Formula E, where he secured two victories, d'Ambrosio transitioned into management roles, including stints as Deputy Team Principal at Venturi and, most recently, his position at Mercedes.
Strengthening Ferrari's future prospects
The arrivals of Serra and d'Ambrosio are expected to provide a significant boost to Ferrari's technical and operational capabilities as the team prepares for the future.
With Serra's expertise in chassis performance and d'Ambrosio's management acumen, the Scuderia aims to bolster its competitiveness and position itself for sustained success in the coming years.
Moreover, the duo's appointments hold particular significance as Ferrari gears up for the highly anticipated arrival of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton in 2025, further underscoring the team's commitment to assembling a formidable lineup.
