The undercurrent of tension surrounding Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner has intensified.
Former Formula 1 driver Christijan Albers expressing grave concerns over Horner's sustained grip on power within the energy drink company's racing operations.
Albers' scathing remarks come amid reports of probes into Horner's alleged misconduct and a public spat between the team boss and driver Max Verstappen's father, Jos.
Alberts comments
Speaking on the De Telegraaf podcast, Albers did not mince words, deeming it "terrifying" that Horner still commands such authority at Red Bull.
He warned, "I think a lot more will surface," hinting at potential revelations that could further undermine Horner's position.
Albers questioned Horner's role in Red Bull's success, crediting advisor Helmut Marko's driver program for unearthing talents like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
"Looking at success, with all due respect, all success comes from Marko," Albers asserted.
Amid the maelstrom, Horner has remained defiant, asserting his leadership at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix:
"I lead this team, and everybody has a key role to play."
However, the Red Bull hierarchy's decision to dismiss the initial investigation into Horner's conduct has done little to quell the rising tide of controversy.
Red Bull's rollercoaster ride
The saga has seen numerous twists and turns, from Jos Verstappen's public call for Horner's resignation to Marko's revelation of a potential suspension due to leaks regarding the Horner probe.
Max Verstappen even threatened to walk away if Marko faced dismissal, though the latter has since reaffirmed his position after meetings with Red Bull's top brass.
As the paddock braces for potential aftershocks, Albers' explosive remarks have underscored the volatility surrounding one of Formula 1's most successful outfits, with Horner's future hanging in the balance amidst a crucible of controversy.
