The Aston Martin Formula 1 team has secured new investment through the sale of a minority stake to private equity firm Arctos Partners.

The deal, announced on the eve of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, values the British racing outfit at approximately $1 billion according to the Financial Times.

Investment underscores growth potential

While exact financial details were not disclosed, Arctos Partners has acquired shares in AMR Holdings GP Limited, the team’s parent company.

The sale is expected to be finalized before 2023 concludes.

Arctos will provide capital and expertise to support Aston Martin's continued expansion in F1.

According to Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of Aston Martin, the firm brings "deep sports industry knowledge, and a robust network of influential relationships" that will aid the team's development.

Managing partner Doc O'Connor said the investment marks the start of a "long-term partnership" with Stroll and Aston Martin.

He stated that backing leading sports brands aligns with Arctos' strategy.

Caps milestone season for Aston Martin

The deal comes on the heels of a breakthrough 2022 season for Aston Martin. With the final race in Abu Dhabi still to come, the team has already secured eight podium finishes and its highest-ever points total.

However, Stroll emphasized that "our collective ambition is greater."

Aston Martin moved into its new $200 million Silverstone factory this year and continues investing to compete at the front of the grid.

O'Connor said Arctos sees tremendous potential in the project and shares the vision to build Aston Martin into a "world-class Formula 1 team."

Sale quiets speculation over team's future

In recent weeks, speculation circulated regarding a potential full sale of Aston Martin's F1 operations.

Stroll originally acquired the team in 2018 when it was known as Force India, rebranding it Aston Martin in 2021.

However, Arctos views this deal as the start of an enduring collaboration with Stroll.

For now, the team remains under his control with added investment through the minority stake sale.
