Aston Martin F1

History

Aston Martin is a Formula One team that has undergone numerous name changes and ownership transitions over the years.

The team originally started as Jordan Grand Prix and was owned by Eddie Jordan. It then became Midland, Spyker, and eventually Force India, under the ownership of Indian businessman Vijay Mallya.

Despite its previous success, Force India struggled to keep up with the competition in terms of development, leading to financial difficulties and eventual administration.

In 2018, Lawrence Stroll and his Canadian consortium purchased the team and rebranded it as Racing Point.

Stroll invested in the team and aimed to switch its aerodynamic philosophy to a Mercedes-style approach.

The new design caused controversy when the "pink Mercedes" (RP20) was introduced, leading to a fine and points deduction from the FIA for illegal brake ducts.

Despite the setback, Racing Point took its first victory in Formula One with Sergio Perez at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

When Stroll purchased the luxury car brand Aston Martin, the team was rebranded once again, becoming Aston Martin.

Sebastian Vettel was brought in as a driver, but the team struggled in the 2021 season, finishing seventh in the Constructors' Championship.

The following year, despite a slow start, Aston Martin improved its performance and finished seventh again, this time tied with Alfa Romeo.

Vettel retired and was replaced by two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso for 2023.

Lawrence Stroll has made significant investments in the team's infrastructure, including the construction of a new factory at Silverstone and a new wind tunnel.

The team has also undergone a massive recruitment drive, hiring 150 new staff members, including former McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh and head of aerodynamics from Red Bull, Dan Fallows.

Stroll's goal is to bring Aston Martin to the top of Formula One and achieve titles and race victories in the near future.
