Alpine F1

History

Alpine F1 is a works team that competes in the Formula 1 World Championship. The team was originally established as Renault F1 Team in 2002, when Renault entered Formula 1 as a works team.

Renault rebranded the Benetton team, which was run by Flavio Briatore, and achieved a successful debut season, finishing fourth in the championship.

In 2005, Renault won its first World Championship title with Fernando Alonso as the driver and Giancarlo Fisichella, wrapping up the Constructors' titles.

The team repeated its performance in 2006. However, in 2007, Renault went without a win, and in 2008, Renault was involved in the infamous "Crashgate" scandal.

In 2012, Renault sold the team to Lotus, which ran it until 2015 when Renault bought it back in the hopes of reliving its past glories.

In 2019, Renault showed signs of improvement, but for every step forward, there seemed to be a step back.

In 2020, Renault changed its line-up and saw improved results, with a third-place finish at the Eifel and Emilia Romagna GPs.

In 2021, Renault rebranded as Alpine and had Fernando Alonso return for a third stint with the team. Although the team finished fifth in the Constructors' Championship, Esteban Ocon took a brilliant victory in Hungary.

In 2022, with the introduction of new Technical Regulations, Alpine aimed to escape the midfield battle and fight for the top, but it became apparent that there was work to be done.

Despite the challenges, Alpine improved throughout the season, finishing fourth in the Constructors' Championship with 173 points. For 2023, Alpine has an all-French line-up of Ocon and Pierre Gasly, and reason for optimism.
